Recruitment for Research Technician (Molecular Breeding and Applied Genomics) at ICRISAT | Freshers apply

ICRISAT is a non-profit, apolitical, international organization for science-based agricultural development. Established in 1972, it is an Alliance of centers of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR), and supported by more than 48 governments, foundations, and development banks. To reduce poverty, enhance crop productivity and food security and to protect the environment, ICRISAT research focuses on farming systems and crop improvement, management and utilization of sorghum, pearl millet, pigeon pea, chickpea, and groundnut in the semi-arid tropics.  
ICRISAT seeks applications from Indian nationals for the post of Research Technician (Molecular Breeding) to be based at Patancheru, Andhra Pradesh, India., to be a part of Centre of Excellence Genomics (CEG) team, to work on MARS Inc (USA) sponsored project entitled “Improving short duration/drought tolerant peanut genotypes for oil quality and disease resistance through marker-assisted gene/QTL pyramiding approach”. The position will be based at ICRISAT’s Headquarters in Patancheru, near Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India.
  • Position : Research Technician (Molecular Breeding)
  • Responsibilities :
    • Execution of (i) breeding nurseries that include hybridization, (ii) field trials and (iii) seed production program under the supervision of the concerned scientist
    • Coordination of day-to-day field  research activities
    • Experimental data collection, tabulation and statistical analysis
    • Any other job that may be assigned by the supervisor from time to time
    Competencies:
    • Proficiency in English communication skills (both written and spoken)
    • Proficiency in Computer skills (MS-Office)
    • Should be a good team player and adaptable to working in multicultural team
    Desired Profile :
    • Graduate in biological sciences and/or Diploma in Agriculture
    • 2-3 years’ experience required of practical work at a research institute, university or private sector Company
    • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
    • Ability to work in field and lab conditions for extended hours
  • General : The position is initially for a three-year period, and may be extended depending on requirement, funding availability and performance of the incumbent.  An attractive compensation will be paid to the right candidate.

    Position :  Research Technician (Applied Genomics)
    Responsibilities :

    • Tissue collection, preparation of stock/buffers for DNA/RNA isolation and genotyping
    • DNA/RNA isolation, Genotyping on different platforms
    • Scoring alleles and compiling genotyping data
    • Maintaining records of primers, enzymes and other chemicals
    • Any other job that may be assigned by supervisor from time to time
    Competencies:
    • Fluency in English (both written and spoken);
    • Proficiency in Computer skills (MS-Office, data analysis);
    • Should be a good team player and adaptable to working in multicultural team.
    Desired Profile :
    • Graduate (B.Sc in Agriculture / B.Sc in Biological Sciences) with related experience.
    • Experience in handling genotyping related work mentioned above individually as well as with other colleagues.
    • Ideal candidate should be well aware of latest genotyping platforms.
    • Preference will be given to candidate with good lab experience.
    • Working in inter-disciplinary team in multicultural and multinational environment and the ability to interact with other researchers.
    • Fluency in spoken and written English is essential.
