Rice, Maize, Jowar, Bajra, and Sunflower are the important field crops where hybrid technology has been exploited on a commercial scale. Seed Production technology for hybrids is one of the important components of exploitation of yield potential. There is a tremendous potential to further tap hybrid technology for achieving quantum jump in productivity. Also redgram is an important pulse crop where large scale seed production  is taken up. Further for enhancing the crop productivity improved seed production techniques has to be followed. This training programme is aimed at providing the hands on experience in the seed production technology on field crops to train the personnel involved in seed production.
About SRTC :The Seed Research & Technology Centre, ANGRAU, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad was established in the year 1979 to strengthen the Breeder seed production, basic and strategic research on Seed Science and Technology.  The Institute has a strength of 8 (Eight) Scientists, technical and supporting staff.  The project aims to conduct, coordinate and monitor research on different aspects of seed technology and make linkages with crop improvement projects, seed industry, seed certification agencies, seed trade,  NGO’s/KVK’s, etc.  It also augments research so as to make it relevant to the needs of farming community specially marginal and small farmers. 
LOCATION:
The Seed Research & Technology Centre  is situated within the campus of Acharya N G Ranga Agricultural University, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad.  The SRTC has farm area of about 80 acres.  The Institute is 15 km away from Hyderabad railway station and airport. 
DURATION:
September, 26th – 30th, 2011(both days inclusive).  The participants must reach the venue on 26th, September, 2011. COURSE CONTENTS :
The training programme will involve both theory and field visits which will orient the participants about the techniques of seed production in field crops.  The topics mainly covered in the training are: Seed production techniques and standards in Rice, Maize, Sorghum Bajra, Redgram , Sunflower and Castor. 
FACULTY:
The faculty of Seed Research and Technology Centre, Acharya N G Ranga Agricultural University, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad will conduct the training programme.  The guest speakers with specialized experience in these crops from ANGRAU, ICAR institute and APSSCA will be invited. 
ELIGIBILITY :
Interested Scientists from the ANGRAU, Officers of State Department of Agriculture, Public Sector Seed Corporation, Certification Agency, Private Seed Sector and NGO’s/KVK’s. 
BOARDING AND LODGING :
Free boarding and lodging shall be provided to the participants.  The TA and DA have to be met from their respective head of accounts from which their pay and allowance are drawn/ sponsoring organization.
HOW TO REACH SRTC, RAJENDRANAGAR :
Taxi and auto’s are available from Hyderabad railway station to Seed Research & Technology Centre, Rajendranagar (15 km distance) and Secunderabad railway station to Seed Research & Technology Centre, Rajendranagar (20 km distance). City bus services from the railway station through different routes are also available to Rajendranagar.  No transport allowance is provided to the trainees.
